I'm not linked to World of Wool in any way, I just really got into spinning this year, and I want to share my love of the advent calendar.
Day Nineteen: Milk
This one needs a bit of explaining. Milk not fit for consumption has been used to make fibre (and therefore yarn and fabric) since the 1930s. It contains a protein that can be extracted and then chemistry happens. I found this site that explains it, but this is not my strong suit. What I can tell you is that the fibre has a beautiful sheen with a softness that is just gorgeous. If you're in my Discord (linked above and to the side) you may have seen that I spun some nettle fibre, and I have a sample of milk fibre in that bundle too. I'm going to spin the sample and this 100g of fibre, and make a 3 ply yarn; the other two plies will be Sugar and Spice, a merino blend from World of Wool that I got a few months ago. I've been wondering what to ply it with, and thinking about a rose fibre for the aesthetic, but this milk fibre is going to be perfect.
Have you ever heard of milk fibre before?
