Books Completed
YES! Progress on last week! I finished Ancient Literacies edited by Johnson and Parker. It was a fascinating collection of essays, but admittedly I can't judge some of their arguments because I don't know enough about children and learning to read.
I also finally finished Black Powder War, the third book in the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. I adore that little dragon, and this book introduced some charming new characters. I thoroughly recommend this series. It doesn't gloss over the slavery, racism, and misogyny that defined that era, but instead brings it right into the main plot at times.
Books in Progress
I started Empire of Ivory which is the fourth book in the series. My heart broke reading it, I need to know what happens next. I've also been reading a little more of The Mummy! by Jane Loudon, but I admit I'm a little behind on that.
Books Incoming
Isn't this a fun section? From this Friday I will be running a readalong of The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe. Going for 15 weeks, the details can be found here on Goodreads if you wish to join us. It is one of my favourite novels of all time, and even better you can get it for free as an ebook from Project Gutenberg.
Games
Oh dear.
Fallout 4 has once again had way too much of my attention, as has Fallout New Vegas. I've been building a castle in Planet Coaster which acts as a building to keep the shops in, and I realise typing this that I've put way too much thought into it.
Summary
I think I've had a rather productive week. I have to admit I'm enjoying being on a break from studying, It's letting me spend time however I wish, whether that's building a settlement in the Commonwealth, or a castle in a theme park.
