Plans?
Last month I wanted to read several books.
- Pharaoh by Wilbur Smith. Oh blimey. The premise is good enough, but I really wished the narrator could get his head out of his genitals. All the women were attracted to him, he was the best leader, and generally a bit of an arsehole. I gave up on this book, and happily so.
- Malice by John Gwynne, This is for #TFATFRA (The Faithful and the Fallen read along) hosted by Frankie Reads. I've not made progress on this at all.
- Cambridge Ancient History. I didn't make any further progress on these.
- Circe by Madeline Miller. I'll be reading this in November as part of the #biglibraryread on OverDrive and Libby.
Finished books
I read three books in October, and considering my health I'm really happy with that.
- Pharaoh by Wilbur Smith. I mentioned this above.
- The Girl with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke. This is a YA book that was part of #biglibraryread for October. It was wonderful and necessary. Ellie is a young Jewish girl who finds herself transported back in time to 1988 East Berlin. You follow her story as she tries desperately to both fit in and get back to her own time, while getting moments of narration from another Jewish character in the Holocaust. There are three main narrators (two Jewish and one Romani) and a main character who identifies as queer. I thoroughly recommend this book.
- The Burning Chambers by Kate Mosse. I've been a fan of Mosse since I was 15, and I think she does French historical fiction really well. This book in particular nails the huge world changing drama and makes it small and easy to relate to by having the focus on a family.
I also finished my first cross stitch project since June 2012. The kit from Heritage Crafts, Cat in Hat, took me 25 hours to complete, and I love it. I've named her Madame la Kitty.
I want to continue with #biglibraryread - it feels like such a community thing - but after discovering I can still access some parts of my university library (yay!) I do want to read a little bit of nonfiction too.
- Circe by Madeline Miller. This is the #biglibraryread and what I plan to begin the month with, hopefully.
- Malice by John Gwynne and....
- Valor by John Gwynne. These are the first and second books for the readalong I mentioned above, and I'm determined to read them.
- Nonfiction. I'm not sure which book exactly, but I want to do something towards my studying so I don't feel like I'm doing nothing.
That's my October, and my plans for November. What about you?
