This might not seem like a big deal, it certainly doesn't sound it. My room is a mess.
When my nan fell ill last year, we had to quickly adjust the room, so a lot of my things that were - for example - in the living room had to be put in boxes and moved into my room. This process continued, and got worse. Combine that with having about 100 books on the floor in a neat puddle of literature, crafting stash, and things that I'm going to need as I redecorate... You can imagine. I can get to where I need to, and everything is stable; it just doesn't look too great.
Today I had a huge energy boost out of nowhere (I think it might be related to finishing my dissertation) so decided to make a start.
I regret everything.
I started with one drawer, and thought "I could totally do my wardrobe."
I. Regret. Everything.
With help, I emptied most of my wardrobe onto my bed, and put my clothes into piles: black shirts, shirts that are not just plain black, white/coloured shirts, trousers, skirts, dresses. I lost a lot of weight, so I logically assumed that most of the stuff would not fit me. Sizes included Age 14 (yes, age not size), and UK 6-16. Knowing that, I guessed I would be recycling about three or four bags worth of clothes.
Cue several hours of trying everything on (and a lot of resting, who knew it would be so tiring?) and putting into bags everything that didn't fit, either too small or too big.
I say bags but what I really mean is bag. One. Singular.
A top designed for a 14 year old fits me comfortably. A size 8 skirt, size 12 trousers, and size 16 trousers all fit me comfortably. I know the whole thing is that different brands have different sizing methods and if you wear a 14 in one thing it might be a 12 or 16 in another. Some of the shirts were not just from the same collection, but the same shirt in different sizes, yet they felt exactly the same.
So what size am I? I can wear age 14 clothes, but also size 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16. A variation of one size either way is expected; the body changes throughout the day, but also through the seasons. To be able to wear comfortably six different sizes, and something in children/teen sizes... It is mental. Do not get me started on small, medium, or large.
When buying clothes, I have no idea what size to get, despite knowing my measurements. I hate shopping at the best of times, but this has made me hate it more. I thought sizing guides were supposed to be a way of being able to judge what clothes are likely to fit. Apparently, it is utter nonsense.
See you next week!
