October 19th: Favorite Non-Canon Ships
--These are the couples you love, but they never got together in canon (canon meaning: what actually happened in the text). Or that did get together, but weren't together in the end of the series. Or a couple you ship but it's actually impossible for them to be together because they are from different worlds, franchises, etc. Let your shipper heart run wild. I know mine will.
1. Emily from The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe, and Dorothea from Middlemarch by George Eliot
I utterly adore these women, and as much as I love the relationship between Emily and Valancourt, I can't help but imagine what it would be like if she could be with Dorothea. Emily would faint at the slightest bump in the night, and Dorothea would swoop in, pick her up, and say "Never mind, dear" to help give a rational reason behind the terrifying ghostly noises.
2. Merry from the Merry Gentry series, and Anita from the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, both by Laurell K Hamilton
These two women are very different in many ways, and there is no possible way for their worlds to collide... but oh what if? Anita and Merry using their combined skills to take down rogue vampires, and ruling both the Seelie and Unseelie courts together. Their own partners would get along as well, and I just love the idea of the two of them being together and taking on the world, yelling one profanity at a time... and how cute would Jean-Claude, Micah, and Nathaniel be with Merry's children?
3. Scorpius and Albus from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling et al
I think these two have a brilliant friendship, despite the plot. I just think, what if they became a couple? Not only would it have given some much needed representation in the series as a whole, but it would not have changed anything. They still would have time travelled and faced "Voldemort Day" and other disasters. They just would have done it as a couple, not just as friends.
4. Harry and Draco from the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
They literally spent an entire year thinking of very little but each other. I wanted them to be together when I was 10, and I still want them to be together now.
5. Bilbo Baggins and his home, from The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien
I mean, honestly, he just misses his own bed.
What are your favourite non-canon ships?
