Weekly Blogs?
I miss blogging. Through the last few months, I've wanted to blog but not really been sure what to post about. I'm doing my MA in Classical Studies, but there are only so many times I can talk about that without boring myself. I want to return to weekly wrap up posts... So here's my plan for that.
Daily Crafting
This is something I do anyway. Every single day I work on something, I'm just terrible at remembering to post pictures. This however is my maybe plan...
Every day I will cross stitch for one hour. Every day I will spin for one hour. Every day I will knit and/or crochet for one hour. Each month I will finish one small garment (eg: shawl, socks). Each quarter I will work on one blanket, and/or one large garment (eg: jumper, cardigan). Each month I will make at least one item to donate to a charity or shelter.
This means I am crafting for a minimum of three hours a day, which is around what I'm doing anyway. For all of this, I'll be working from my stash. I want to not buy anything unless absolutely necessary (eg: I run out of DMC 310 and I'm in the middle of stitching a penguin, so obviously I need to get more of the black thread to continue), or tools that will help (eg: a different crochet hook, one that's less owie). There won't be hauls, but I will shop my stash.
I've missed doing cross stitch, and if I do an hour a day I can have my usual 5 hour progress picture going up once a week. Since May, I have really taken to spinning my own yarn. I have five different drop spindles, and I love them all. It takes me what feels like a lifetime to make any significant progress in anything, and I know it takes me around six hours to ply a 50g ball of yarn. If you don't know what that means, that's OK, there won't be a quiz. Basically it takes me forever, but I love doing it. I also want to develop my crochet skills, and learn how to knit, especially learning how to knit socks and gloves. It is my hope that doing an hour a day will help that. I'm desperately hoping this will also help me get my stash organised.
I know this seems like a lot of project hopping, and to you that may sound overwhelming. What I've learned the most during my dissertation writing is that my brain hates monotony, I need to project hop to keep my brain happy. Mixing different types of yarncraft and needlework on the same day will hopefully keep that happy going. I hope. I really hope.
Reading!
I also miss reading. I've not read any fiction in far too long, and this is what I'll be doing of an evening. I don't want to read a book a day every day, despite the fact that it'd help get my owned-but-unread books to a more manageable number. I just want to go back to reading for fun again.
That's my plan. I want to share basically all of this, and to use the weekly wrap up posts to show what I'm doing and what skills I've learned. I'm excited about it. I hope you won't mind me sharing so much, and I hope you'll join me on this journey of wondering what the ever living...
Anyway. Onward to the future.
