Admittedly, #Victober did not go well, and I only managed to read one play on the very first day. That said, I really want to take part in #TomeTopple, and I hope you can all encourage (read: nag) me into keeping up with it. Unless stated otherwise, I'll be reading an eBook version of these, like I usually do when I read.
First up is House of Leaves. I'm pretty sure I've talked about Mark Z Danielewski's works here previously, but if not... House of Leaves is a mindblowingly amazing book. A friend recommended it to me in 2007, and it has remained my favourite non-classic standalone book. I want to reread it, and have done for a while, as I save up for The Familiar series. I think this is going to be an excellent excuse to do so. I have the UK paperback version.
If I get through that quickly, I'd also like to read The Three Musketeers. I've never read anything by Alexandre Dumas, and I desperately want to change that. I thought I'd start with something I'm already a little familiar with, but even if I don't get to reading it for this readathon, I still plan on reading it at a later date.
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel by Susanna Clarke has been on my to-read list for way too long, and since it is a long novel, I thought I'd add it to this. I'm also adding to the list A History of the World by Andrew Marr, which is a nonfiction book I have as a hardback. If I can find where I put it, I'll read it. I'd like to attempt La Morte D'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory; I've tried to read this several times with no luck, but I'm determined to keep trying.
Other than House of Leaves I'll be deciding what to read and when by pulling the titles out of a jar. It may mean I read things not on this TBR, and I'm OK with that. According to my Goodreads statistics, I've read 9,863 pages this year across 35 books, and I'd really like to break 15,000 pages if I can by the end of the year. It is quite a challenge, but with enough of you nagging me, I'm hopeful.
I hope I have a good mix of choices, but like I said, the books I read are likely to change. You can follow my progress by adding me on Goodreads where I post updates, or on Twitter where my Goodreads posts are shared.
Let me know if you have any long books you enjoy, or if you are taking part in #TomeTopple!
