(take a breath)
Sunset painted eyes and sunrise kissed lips, steal my heart
and take my hand.
Smile at me with that hopeless desperation you do
ever so well and
tease those lost words out of me.
(take a breath)
Write me a novel,
detail all how you promise to love me
and I'll return the favour
with the lines life has traced on my skin.
(take a breath)
I cannot say I fell in love with you.
I walked into love fully aware
that the consequences could change me.
I regret nothing.
(take a breath)
(take another breath)
(steady yourself)
Circumstances put us together,
choices have kept us together,
and together we will face the world
with our heads held high.
(take a breath)
Sunset painted eyes and sunrise kissed lips,
now is the time to write our lives as one.
So perhaps I should explain.
I received an email asking me to take part in Verses for Valentines (and you just read my entry, it's that poem I started the post with), but my initial response was fear. I know that I'm an author and I'm supposed to write, but truth is I haven't written for months. This poem was the first piece I have written in what feels like a lifetime.
I hope you liked the poem, and I'll be adding it to Rose on Fire in a few months, with some extra surprises too.
See you next Tuesday!
