Welcome to my Wednesday wrap up, a weekly wrap up of most of the things I've read and done in the last week. Once I'm done with this academic year I'll also be including Top 5 Wednesday in with this weekly post.
Books Completed
I've only finished one book this week, and that is Women's Influence on Classical Civilization edited by Fiona McHardy and Eireann Marshall. This is a collection of essays about how women in the Classical world have been underappreciated for centuries. It includes essays on Hypatia and women contributing to academic fields, marriage and how it spread culture, and a letter from Cornelia, mother of the Gracchi, which the Romans considered to be written by a woman but academics think otherwise (spoiler alert: it was probably written by a woman).
Books in Progress
Through Serial Reader I'm reading The Mummy! by Jane Loudon. Written in 1827, this is set in the twenty second century and is about how a scientist and his student bring back an ancient Egyptian mummy, King Cheops, back to life. There's a huge amount of innovations like international travel through hot air balloons, and women in trousers a century and a half before that became acceptable. I'm currently 51% through.
Also through Serial Reader, I'm reading Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe, but I admit I've not read that much of it. I have fallen behind with that, War and Peace and Les Miserables. I'm going to catch up! I want to know what happens.
On my Kobo I'm reading Black Powder War, the third in the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. This was recommended to me simply by describing it as "Napoleonic Wars with dragons" and honestly... it is. It is incredible, and I adore Temeraire so much I want to boop his snoot. I'm about 40% through at the moment, but I'm hoping I can read before sleep again. My hayfever is getting in the way of that a little.
Summary
I'm hoping that, once this academic year is done, I'll be able to read more and post more. I do miss blogging, so my plan is to do a few posts a week again. I have a few things in mind, but of course my university studies must come first. Fangirl Friday will return, as will Top 5 Wednesday. I also have a new thing I want to do.
So far this week has been rather busy for me, but how has your week been?
