Books
I have read a few books, but only two of them I mentioned in my TBR. I did read The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde as I said I would, and adored it even more than I did the last time I read it. It really is one of my most beloved books. I also read The Pale Horseman by Bernard Cornwell, the second book in The Saxon Stories/The Last Kingdom series; I do enjoy following the story of Uhtred, but the misogyny is strong in this series. I know there's probably the argument for it being historical fiction and therefore historically accurate misogyny, but it's a ridiculous amount.
The articles I read for university are...
- Osteological Research in Classical Archaeology from American Journal of Archaeology, Vol. 111, No. 3 by Michael MacKinnon
- Kinship between burials from Grave Circle B at Mycenae revealed by ancient DNA typing from Journal of Archaeological Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2008 by Abigail S.Bouwman, Keri A.Brown, A. John N.W.Prag,Terence A.Brown
- Life and Death in a Civitas Capital: Metabolic Disease and Trauma in the Children from Late Roman Dorchester, Dorset from American Journal of Physical Anthropology, Vol 142 Issue 3 by Mary E. Lewis
- "Why Hadn't I Come Across This Sooner?": Exploring the Relationships Between "Feminism(s)" and "Eating Disorders" from Feminist Studies, Vol 46, No2 by Su Holmes
- The Imbecillitas of the Emperor Claudius from Transactions and Proceedings of the American Philological Association, Vol. 79 by Ernestine F. Leon
- A Medical Theory of Cognition from Transactions and Proceedings of the American Philological Association, Vol. 79 by Harold W. Miller
- A Neurological Mystery from History: The Case of Claudius Caesar from Journal of the History of the Neurosciences, Vol. 19, Issue 3 by Ali Murad
I also read in full Disability in Antiquity edited by Christian Laes, and thoroughly enjoyed it (but note there is a constant use of outdated language throughout the book). This is definitely one I'd recommend.
Netflix
The biggest things that stand out to me that I've watched this month are...
- Star Trek Discovery. Honestly, this series is my happy place. I adore it
- Secrets of Saqqara, a documentary about an archaeological dig in Egypt and its discoveries
- Crazy Ex Girlfriend which I am rewatching. A musical comedy that is intensely self aware
Games
I'm back playing Animal Crossing New Horizons and have been redesigning my island! I'm so happy with my plans, and I cannot wait to get it finished. It's going to take me quite some time to get the bells to renovate completely, but I am enjoying the process as much as the result.
I've also put far too many hours into The Sims 4 as usual. You can find me on the gallery as EllanaRose and I'll be posting some more builds soon once a few bugs have been fixed.
Onwards for December...
December TBR
Oh no. I only read two books from my November TBR, so I'm rolling it forward. I am determined to read The Saxon Stories/The Last Kingdom series to see how it ends. I still want to read all of the books I mentioned last month, so I'll not repeat myself.
There has been a small addition, in that I'm now moving some of my university TBR books onto my monthly TBR shelf on Goodreads. I'm more comfortable with rolling these over, as I'm just adding them there for easier access once I start reading them, rather than having it as a set TBR. The fiction books however, I do need to make sure I don't roll over twice. The books on my TBR currently will not appear in January's TBR, so I have to decide how urgently I want to read them.
November has been a brilliant month, and it is my hope that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are able to undo the horrifying things that have happened in the last four years.
How has your month been?
