It assumes that you are not already brilliant and that somehow by starting things on January first, you will become brilliant and perfect and the you of your dreams. It is bullshit.
For 2015 I'm going to make you reading this a promise. I'm going to maintain the good things I have been doing, and I encourage you to do the same. Instead of resolutions that set you up for failure before January is out, why not maintain progress on the things you are doing now?
Here's my list of things I have been doing, and how I'm going to do it even more in 2015.
- Staying organised
I have been using Habit RPG and it has been going great. Now I'm going to be combining that with paper diaries to keep on track of appointments, assignments, writing deadlines, blog posts... - Health
Now I think it is safe to say you all know that my health is poor at the best of times, and this won't change. Instead I can focus on little things that I've been doing already. I'm going to continue stretching once a day. It seems small, and it is, but it makes me feel more in control of my body. - Crafting and down time
I love watching Netflix and I love to craft. For the last month or so I have been combining the two. As I watch Netflix, whether a movie or TV series, I keep my hands busy by crafting. I have finished a knooked jumper dress (pictures when I remember where I put my camera) and I'm working on a beaded crochet project. It's only for an hour or two a night before I go to bed, but it really helps me to unwind. - Reading
I have so missed reading for pleasure! I run the Read the Alphabet Challenge groups on Facebook and Goodreads which you are more than welcome to join; more news and another blog post on that when it starts. I have also been trying to read just a chapter or two every day. This means books are lasting longer for me - weeks instead of hours - and I can read while eating my dinner. I'm not wasting my time and I wasn't before; I'm just using it differently.
Those four things are manageable and small. I'm already doing them, so my 2015 goals are to maintain them, to not let them slip into that void of oops forgot to do that thing.
If you are like me and in the past you have made unreachable resolutions - get fitter, do all the things ever, travel everywhere - why not join me in maintaining the good? You are already doing great things, so maybe we could all make 2015 the year of keeping that going.
See you next Tuesday!
