I'm a huge fan of this series, as my previous two blog posts have shown. When Lucy Banks tweeted that the third was available on NetGalley I immediately had to get it and read it.
Synopsis
After recovering from the Scotland fetch from the previous book, Kester receives a text from his girlfriend Anya asking for help. She is part of a secret society and they have held her as prisoner. Cue lots of intrigue and secrecy. Kester and Miss Wellbeloved help to rescue Anya, but things aren't quite what they seem.
Characters
As always, the characters in this series are charming and intelligent, and I think it is where the book really comes into its own; the characters are exceptional. Everyone has their own quirks, and is just brilliant. Kester, the main character, is the perfect flawed hero; he is smart and powerful, but gets anxious over everything. Miss Wellbeloved shone through this book, and I adore her. I'm so happy Luke returned. I ship Mike and Serena even more.
Plots
This feels like a Simpsons episode, where it starts with one thing and then you have a whole plot that seems detached from the beginning, but everything loops around by the end. I love it. One thing that bugs me in urban fantasy is plot holes; everything gets explained in this book.
Summary
I don't think it is possible for me to be more of a fangirl over this series. I utterly adore it. The characters feel like they could be real people, with the amount of depth that they have. Yes it can be a bit cheesy, with conversations on cake, but honestly I love it. It feels grounded, real, and to me that is essential in urban fantasy.
