I started with House of Leaves and continued to read this through the event, reading just a little each day. I'm a huge fan of Mark Z Danielewski, and that love began with House of Leaves about eight years ago; I still utterly adore this book. I recommend this to anyone who wants a break from standard novels, with its use of footnotes, letters, and much more besides. Honestly, this is a work of art, not just a novel.
I've had ASOIAF by George RR Martin on my to-be-read pile for way too long, and I finally got round to reading it! Yay!
Sort of.
A Game of Thrones was great, but I did find myself not wanting to hear all the points of view, making some sections of the novel a little difficult to get through. The final chapter made it all worthwhile. I read this in two or three afternoons, but I probably would not have continued with it without the help of #TomeTopple.
Likewise, A Clash of Kings was great, but again I found parts of it tedious. I loved the sea battle, and it reminded me a little of the Iliad (which is now on my to-be-read pile again). This took me several days of yelling at myself to finish it. As much as I want to continue reading the series, I think it might take me some time, but I'll do it eventually.
I'm so proud of myself for finishing three very long books in such a short time. Now if you'll excuse me, I'd like a nap.
